Why is photography important in branding?
The reason why photos are essential when it comes to your brand because it easily shows your audience who you are and what your brand personality.
Photography also increases your sales and helps you stand out from your competition.
If you are like many people who use stock photography for your branding, you may come to realize that stock photos can be expensive, especially if you are buying from places like Shutter Stock and Getty Images.
Yes, it is true that there are free sites out there like Pexel, Unsplash, and Gratisography but since they are open source websites other, you will find out that a lot of other people are using them. If you want your brand to stand out using photos that have been widely used maybe not be a great idea. Free stock photos can also be limiting if you have a certain niche that may not be as mainstream as others.
I know you may be on a budget but free things can only take you so far.
I have good news for you. Although purchasing photos may be dreadful for you. I have a secret on how you can get the most usage out of your purchased stock photos!
Are you ready for the secret?
Three words…Crop and Text Placement
Yep, these three simple things can help you get the most use out of your photo.
Using the crop function in any photo editing program can take one photo and turn it into many. Simply crop the photo to have it focus on a certain object or space in your photo. Also placing your text in different areas of the photo can help bring a different perspective.
To show you how you can edit one photo into multiple ways, I have provided a few examples to show you how easy it can be!
The first picture is the original stock photo, no editing or cropping has occurred.
The next step is adding text to the photo and zoomed the photo in a little.
The first I cropped photo was cropped vertically halfway with the text and I moved the text closer to the right side of the clock.
In the second cropped photo, I cropped off the bottom of the clock and I moved the text even closer to the clock.
The third cropped photo has been horizontally cropped halfway. I also added the text above the clock.
The examples show that one photo can be cropped and used in different ways.
This can be beneficial for you if you are trying to save money doing this technique but it also gives you an opportunity to be creative with your photo editing skills.
This was just an example with one object in the photo but if you are using a photo with multiple images, the possibilities can be endless. The more objects in the photo the more use you can get out of it.
I will dive more into cropping pictures with multiple objects in the next blog post. Stay tuned!
